Re: Anyone in Oz with sinusitis/sinus problems...
Ive lived in Australia all my life however when we lived in Tasmania I suffered heaps with my sinuses all year round althoug it would ease in Summer.
When we moved to Qld I figured my sinuses would get heaps better as it seems to be the cold that affects me BUT...Im just as bad here in Summer as I was in Tassie in Winter due to the air con. The cold air con really bothers me and having it on in the car all the time doesnt help but in Summer I usually need to have the air con on at home and in the car as it just gets to stuffy and humid. I even try to have only the ceiling fan on in my bedroom at night but the cold air from that is just as bad....LOL...I can't win!! But I suffer less in Qld as once Summer is gone the rest of the year is wonderful without the need for all the air conditioning! In Tassie I suffered most of the year with a small reprieve in the 'blink and you miss it' Summer time. |

My OH suffered in UK and was constantly using Beconase etc. As a result he now suffers loads of nosebleeds due to the steriod nasal sprays.
He's no better in Perth..... p.s. Manuka honey didn't help him either. |

Re: Anyone in Oz with sinusitis/sinus problems...
He does the saline rinse now and no longer uses a nasal spray (because of the nosebleeds)...
He sticks Vaseline up his nose to combat the dryness. |
Re: Anyone in Oz with sinusitis/sinus problems...
I had perennial rhinitis in the UK and had to take flixonase to stop my nose running/sneezing constantly etc and antihistamines for hayfever. Have been in Oz for 4 weeks now and no problems at all, haven't taken my medication since we left the UK, I think with hayfever/allergies it really just depends on what sets you off specfically, I am assuming that my allergy was to a specific grass or tree that doesn't exist out here.

Re: Anyone in Oz with sinusitis/sinus problems...
My sinuses are better here in Sydney than in Singapore but I think that's because we don't have aircon here. I suffered terribly with them in Singapore and that's about as humid as you can get but you can't avoid buildings cooled to about 18C even if you don't use aircon at home.
I have however had bad hayfever for the first time since leaving the UK. Can't win 'em all. :D |

Re: Anyone in Oz with sinusitis/sinus problems...
Ohh! Feels soooooooooo 'normal' to have some people in my boat!!
When I say to my colleagues/friends that a day in air con gives me head ache/face ache....they go 'whaat!........no one has problems with air con!!' I used to have chronic sinusitis and had operation 3 years ago for it. Since then things are better but a day in cold air con just brings back the head ache. I have decided to go and work in Australia for a few years. My decision as to where I go to a great extent depends on avoiding air con!! In one of the threads here someone said that there are no air cons in Sydney! Is that true? Is there no need for air con in Sydney? Do hospitals/shopping malls/ taxis etc in Sydney not run air cons in the summer? What about Melbourne? Thanks....please tell me where to go....which place has minimum use of air con!! Thanks again. |

Re: Anyone in Oz with sinusitis/sinus problems...
I suffered from continuous sinusitis in the Uk and here in Oz. A friend suggested I see a naturopath, I was sceptical but went anyway. I had a strict diet to follow for 4 weeks and then a gradual intordution of food items. The results were noticable after a week, I could go out running and not have the constant nasal drip, the pain and swelling went, within 2 weeks I had no symptoms. 6 months later and even after a bout of flu my sinusis have not flared up as that have previously done.

Mine are worse here. So much worse that i've been refererred to a specialist to get them checked.
Constantly blocked, runny nose and blood when i blow my nose is not good. |
Re: Anyone in Oz with sinusitis/sinus problems...
With sinusitis one of the first foods you should try excluding is dairy.

The little plastic kettle thing with saline solution works brilliantly for me, haven't had it bad for ages, as soon as I feel slightly clogged I use that a couple of times and it's all good again. |
