Just make a mental note of all vacant seats before take off, and dont feel bad or embarassed at moving should the need arise!

We're flying with baby so have bulkhead seats and cot booked already.

Went with Qantas because they were the only airline that could guarantee this. Everyone else was a first come first serve. As we're flying from Edinburgh we're always last to get anything and more often than not we don't get the flight we're booked onto and end up on standby/night in a heathrow hotel.

Only once did it work in our favour was with Malaysian Airlines who upgraded us to business class on boxing day year before last.
