Anyone excited about upcoming royal wedding?
#1
I found myself quite excited about the royal engagement and upcoming wedding. I haven't been back to the UK for over six years, but suddenly, I declared to my wife 'we are going on holiday to the UK next year - whenever the wedding is'. I want to be one of those people lining the streets and waving!!!
Not sure where all the enthusiasm suddenly came from. I guess I am nostalgic about the street parties and lovely atmosphere when Charles and Di married. I am hoping it will be the same.
Is there anyone else who is also quite excited at the prospect of a royal wedding?

I'm just waiting for the call to do the photos......
as long as it's not on the 11th June as I'll be doing god-daughters wedding that day! I'm hoping it will be on whilst we are over there.
A lot of the comments on the BBC and Daily Mail have been quite harsh which is a shame as the UK could do with a bit of cheering up and something to flag wave over!
I'm sure William and Kate are very aware of the mood and the situation of the country and they seem the type of people who probably wouldn't want an OTT wedding anyway but because of who they are they will have to endure all the pomp. Let's face it they already have the cars, William will probably get married in his uniform, they've got the reception venue, I guess the most cost to the country will be policing the event. Still, I'm sure it will be a great boost for tourism and souvenir providers so whatever it costs the country, they'll get it back from extra taxes on purchases and travel!

I'm fond of a bit of pageantry and none is quite so spectacular as a Royal wedding. With a figure as popular as Prince William there will no doubt be a wonderful sense of occasion and mood when the time comes.
Not quite sure I would want to suffer the price gouging of hotels, the millions that will descend upon London on that day. But I think there will certainly be call for a street party from my neighbors even here in Australia.

I was watching TV last night and the amount of utter crap being babbled by every useless "Royal expert" and "security experts" made for pathetic and desperate programming.

Seems like I´m the odd one out so far, as I really can´t get excited about a Royal wedding. Whether William marries or doesn´t marry, to me, is of no importance whatsoever. I´m one of those who nowadays feels that a Royal family is a waste of public funds for a start. It also consists of people, who apart from William and Harry, have no idea at all as to what everyday life for the normal Brits is all about. With the death of Diana, they really showed themselves to be a bunch of pompous snobs, and so much so, that as we all saw later, they had to do a rapid about turn and a do a massive public relations excercise to try and appear to really care . Let´s hope that Kate turns out to be approved and accepted by the Queen, as if not, she´ll only end up with the same cold shoulder that Diana received

Nothing against them but I don't really feel they (the 'royalty') are of relevance to me or my life. I just hope the tax payer doesn't have to pay for any of it.
That said, a day off in the summer would be a bonus.

I am but then I'm proud to call myself a Royalist. All the negativity pisses me off to be honest, some people seem to love being unpleasant and obnoxious about people they actually know nothing about, sad really.

Most of us who are "negative" are not being "unpleasant and obnoxious" about anyone, rather "something", i.e., the institution. If a marriage between the next generation of royals isn't an appropriate time to raise objections about monarchy, I don't know when is.

I hope lots of people don't want to fly over if it's held in May as I am meant to be flying back for a rather important family event but I can't book my tickets just yet........

I suspect it will be held when the economy is at its absolute lowest, which is exactly what they did to keep the plebs distracted last time this happened in 1981.

Nice to see so many Australians, and the Australian media, so excited about a wedding in their royal family

The only appropriate time will be upon the death of a monarch. I think that even australian politicians have enough intelligence (perhaps that is an oxymoron!) to figure that one out.

It is a highly inappropriate time to raise objections about monarchy. In the midst of a celebration - it is just a cheap dig at the monarchy.
