Re: Anyone else not interested in the Melbourne cup?
The ACT has a public holiday for a Melbourne event - typical Stanhopeless nonsense so we are deprived of all the fun work events - we have a sweep but even that has been a bit of a fizzer. At least it will give me a break from the arduous chore of changing my email address from all of the places that seem to have registered me with an email address I am planning on changing soon.

Not interested at all and never have been. Taking my wife and daughter for a nice country drive into the hills this afternoon.

Re: Anyone else not interested in the Melbourne cup?
After nearly 4 years I have given in, placed some bets and will enjoy the food etc at work. As others have said "when in rome..."

Maybe I am missing something here, only been in Aus 9 months. I realise that the Melbourne Cup is massive and it is supposed to stop the nation but I am just not one bit interested in it, sounds like a great time to go and do shopping whilst everyone is supposedly watching it just like when it was the FA cup final in the UK.

Re: Anyone else not interested in the Melbourne cup?
Well I loved it -what's not to love about champagne, a top rate lunch, silly hats/fascinators and a sweepstake at work?! The only blip for me was that the race itself was over so quickly - you can't beat the drama of the Grand National, and it seems to last about 15 minutes.
There was a great atmosphere at work today, but then again, it probably had something to do with the 38 degrees weather outside too! |
Re: Anyone else not interested in the Melbourne cup?
Well next year I am definately doing something.. going to a "do" or atleast something that means I can dress up and place a bet or 3!
