Default Anyone else not interested in the Melbourne cup?

Maybe I am missing something here, only been in Aus 9 months. I realise that the Melbourne Cup is massive and it is supposed to stop the nation but I am just not one bit interested in it, sounds like a great time to go and do shopping whilst everyone is supposedly watching it just like when it was the FA cup final in the UK.

We're having a function here at work but I can't be arsed to go. I'll probably get some food and go back to my desk and carry on working.

Got a sick child so am not following it or going out - just yet - but a sleep might do her good.

We're having a function as well - crisps and booze. Since the alternative is work I think I'd rather be there

Be careful - there'll be something like 21m people (minus those who reply to this post), p****d out of their skulls weaving around the roads.

I'm another one of the 'who gives a damn?' brigade. But it's a huge deal over here, moreso I'd say than the Grand National in the UK.

It definately seems a big deal here so I'm part of the "When in Rome..." Brigade and have had a flutter on Master O'Reilly.

Me! What the heck...it's just a horse race right? A lot of gearing up and talking about something that's going to last what, 2 or 3 minutes?

Couldn't really care less but work always put on a free spread so it's better than sitting at my desk.
