I don't know what we let ourselves into, but we are going to lunch with our local Anglican minister & his Family and a few other lonely families like ourselves, I hope it's not going to be fun.

we turned down an invite to go up to Avoca for the afternoon- after so much travelling recently we just want to chill. We are going to a friend's for boxing day though.

That's just not true. I've invited you out more than once. Mind you I was probably pissed when I did it.
Anyway.....Our first Christmas here I got a call from the mother of one of my daughter's school mates. It went something like this - Me "Hello". Her "It's Petra. I'm Catherine's mother. I understand you don't know anyone here yet. Hmmmm. Christmas day, 12 nooon, be at my house. Bring a plate. Your daughter knows where we live". phone clicks and she's hung up.
We got there on Christmas day and her whole family was there. They had bought us gifts (just little things for our house like placemats and some tea cups) and made us feel really welcome. We had a great day and Petra turned out to be a real friend.
Go to the lunch Farideh with an open mind. Who knows? You may just enjoy yourselves.
