Anybody ever been hypnotised?

I was for the first time the other day.....don't quite know what to make of it ?!

Re: Anybody ever been hypnotised?

Nope and never would be, I don't think. I did watch a guy hypnotise a group of people at the GC show a few weeks back and it was funny, but also interesting in how differently people 'succumbed' One guy went into such a deep sleep he couldn't do anything whilst others didn't go under at all.

Did you do it for fun or for health reasons?

Glasgowlass Nov 19th 2007 12:14 am

Re: Anybody ever been hypnotised?

Health. I'm not sure if it's working or not though. I don't fancy the putting my knickers on my head and pretending I'm a chicken stuff!!No Way!:p

I was at a nightclub in Bermuda many years ago and the head act was Martin St James. He hypnotised several of us on stage and off we went back to our tables. When the band played a certain tune.............. we did the craziest of things............ brought the house down.

He later came up to us individually.............. put us to sleep with a click of his fingers............. and told us we would not remember anything.

At work the next day everyone was coming up to me saying how much they had enjoyed the show............... and how funny I was......... I didn't even remember being at the club?

I thought it was a load of old rubbish prior to that night............... but it really does work.

A few years back I was in constant pain following a car accident. I had to see a pain specialist in South Perth and his treatment including putting me to sleep by hypnosis................. and it worked............. the pain diminished.

Can you remember anything about it? Did they film it for you?
A friend of mine was hypnotised and they recorded it for her, so she would believe the actual events that followed.

I wasn't under that deep because it was my first time. He said after a couple of times I'll go deeper and probably won't remember a thing.
He made my arm float into the air and I waved a finger to agree with what he was telling me but at the same time I was off in a dream that I was swimming underwater?? I can't remember what he said to me but it appears to be working tho I'm a wee bit sceptical that I'm not consciously doing it.

I did a similar course a while back also, and practiced as a hypnotherapist for a couple of years previous to coming out to Oz. So yes I have been hypnotised.

really don't no how stage hypnotist's 'SEEM' to be able to click their fingers and hypnotize some one.

Hi Glasgowlass

Are you cured?

From your post you suggest you feel better; you’ve had no thoughts of whatever it was that was ailing you. Which I’m glad to hear.

Often, for the type of issues that people seek help with, ‘feeling’ cured and ‘being’ cured are one and the same. I expect you feel different now to how you felt last week, previous to your visit, which is something you may be surprised about. There’s always a tendency for the conscious, logical mind to try and pick at and analyse something it can’t quite get to grips with; dissecting things into smaller and smaller pieces, to no end at all.

So, are you cured?

They are very gifted i guess?

We had to all gaze into a mirror ball apparently ............ and he whispered summat in our ear........... out of about 30 volunteers he chose 10........ the rest were for whatever reason not suitable?

A couple of my workmates were excluded and that's why i know what went on as they told me so. I thought the whole show was a fake until such time as i got put under myself .............. but it really worked.

The Rocking Berries were playing the same gig............. they came over and congratulated me on a job well done........... and i didn't even know I'd done anything. Tom Jones and Big Jim whatever his name was ......... were in the audience too........... just as general public.......... Bermuda residents like us .......... not performers.

Was a top night ................. apparently?

Stage hypnotists are very good at ‘reading’ people. Some people respond more readily to direct or indirect suggestion (being told what to do), and they’re able, very quickly, to whittle an initial group of thirty or so participants down to a handful who are open to being hypnotised, suggestible, imaginative and potentially entertaining.

There’s also a lot of ‘unspoken contract / agreement’ stuff going on as well. The initial selection process can be done in lots of different ways ranging from a straightforward “Who wants to be hypnotised?” through to seemingly indirect selections based on frisby / ball throwing. The end result is the same; a group of people who ‘want’ to be hypnotised.

Wanting to be hypnotised isn’t quite enough. Everybody has the ability to be hypnotised, some just take longer than others. The stage hypnotist sorts the ‘wheat from the chaff’ so to speak and ends up with a group of suggestible, imaginative individuals who’ve already indicated their wish to be hypnotised, and so are.

Stage hypnosis is for entertainment only and as such is totally different to clinical hypnosis or hypnotherapy.

I started a course in 'hypnobirthing' this week - the idea that i can work with my clients, they get into a hypnotic state and feel no pain in labour. still a bit sceptical at this stage but the relaxation techniques are fantastic.

She tried to hypnotise me at the end of the class but It wouldnt work, or rather I wouldnt 'give myself up' to her, I felt to vulnerable, maybe in time it may work but im not an easy target.

Re: Anybody ever been hypnotised?

My family and I were at a holiday camp and one evening they had a stage hypnotist on, as I thought it was a load of rubbish - they told me to prove it and go on stage. I was fighting against being hypnotised all the time - within two minutes I was under!

I can remember everything I did ie: horseriding, milking a cow, thinking every male man with a bald head was gorgeous (and kissing his head), a catwalk model, talking in a martian language as an interpretor - everyone was in hysterics at the last one as the language just flowed out of my mouth. I remember everyone laughing and me thinking it's not funny, what are they laughing at?

When we were brought around, I thought I had been under for 10-15 minutes, it was three hours later and they had just called last orders - I didn't have a drink all night!!!

Glasgowlass Nov 19th 2007 10:33 am

Re: Anybody ever been hypnotised?

I felt totally at ease with the whole process. In Aus I think (correct me if I'm wrong please) you have to be a registered Psychologist to practice hypnotherapy. This helped with my peace of mind:)

i know, strange feeling isint it,your not sure whether it is going to work,

WELL IT DID FOR ME ! havent touched a fag since !

It really is strange, not what i expected, all i did was sit in a big comfy chair and shut my eyes and she calmly spoke to me and you are still aware of your surroundings, it felt like being in a deep sleep and waking up but not being able to move, a bit like a dead weight (you can move if you really want) but if your relaxed and letting the hypnotherapist talk you through it then you feel really heavy like your being weighed down (not in a dangerous way...its hard to explain)

But 7yrs later and i would not touch a cigerette !

Hello guys,
i am a hypnotist amongst other things :):) and am hosting a 'stress at christmas' workshop with all proceeds to the 'heartkids' charity for children with congenital heart defects. This is a charity close to my own heart as my daughter was born with a major heart defect. You will have fun, learn tools to help you cope with whatever your particular stresses are and more importantly, will be helping the kids :)
It is scheduled for Saturday 1st December.
Pm me for more details :)

I did hypnotherapy before I came out and have done it on and off since I came here, original plan was to start own business but ended up back on the tread mill instead.

Have found local supervision group hard to find anyone interested in making our own expats one?

Most of the local groups want you to do their course first, which I don't need to do as I've checked up and our UK quals still valid in QLD at least.

Over thinkers are more resistant but with patience can still be done you just have to tweek the methods. Some people are so suseptable it's unbelievable you wouldn't even get your fingers clicked and they'd be gone.
