Default Any Tips for Sleeping if you work Nightshift?

Hi

was wondering does anyone have any tips for how to sleep during the day when you are working nights??

Am on nights the now (do rotational shifts), I can't sleep more than a few hours during the day then feel awful due to sleep deprivation.

Have tried blackout blinds, herbal tablets, earplugs, eyemask thing.......

any suggestions welcome

a small glass of sherry before going to bed works for me and my friend swears by relaxation cd on low on repeat.

not sleeping on your break also helps you adjust

hey you get one hours break and you don't get paid for it if the ward can't cope without you contact the bleepholder and get help, if it's not forthcoming and unsafe to leave the ward do an incident form!! If keeps on contact the RCN

I used industrial earplugs, heavy curtains, a glass of warm port, and a good book to read in bed until I felt sleepy.

Occasionally I would use sleeping tablets as well.

Just got in from a busy shift on labour ward so going to bed now.

Never have any trouble dropping off, sleep like the dead for about 3hours, wake up with a bladder up to my tonsils then can't get back to sleep so toss & turn for several more hours until I get fed up and get up.

I've tried everything over the years, alcohol, drugs, horlicks even sex. Nothing works for me..........getting too old for this mularkey. My new job in Oz requires me to work blocks of 7 nights on, think I might just die
