#1
Hi guys, booked a trip back to the UK for xmas and i have two nights in singers on the way and two or three in paris.
Anybody got any recommendations for places to stay. Not silly money, just a half decent place to base myself at for a couple of days.
Cheers

The Marina Bay Sands is my favorite. It'll cost you $300 per night though.

A hint at budget would be good?
For Paris the Minerve hotel in the French quarter is ok. Nothing flash but a good and cheap place to base yourself
Stay with friends in Singapore so can't help there

Not sure what the budget is yet, but as i said, cheap and cheerful as long as its clean and i can sleep it will suffice

Paris and cheap do not equate!!!
If staying in Paris make sure you are at least in a 3 star, as any less than that means you can touch the walls simultaneously, and have to share bathroom facilities- and, on our last experience, bed bugs and cockroaches.

We stayed at Suite Novotel Paris for 110 euros for four of us.It was clean and comfortable which is all you want as you will spend most of your time sightseeing.Bring decent walking shoes. We missed the last train and got a taxi back for 50 euros. The hotel provides free shuttle to the train station. We found trains expensive.

stayed in this place in Paris - its great!
It's right next to Notre dame on the top floor of a fully functioning hospital. The room was clean, modern and functional with a decent en suite, it was quiet and if you stood on the bed to look out of the skylight we could see the towers of Notre dame cathedral!
It was reasonably priced too!
The only weirdness was sharing a lift with patients being wheeled too and from surgery.
fantastic place and we go to Paris again, well stay here again.

The last hotel I stay in Paris wasn't bad, was near Montmartre and think it was one of the chains the worst one was part of the Campinelle chain and was woken up by the metro at 5am everyday and I was on the fourth floor! Fortunately I'm short as you needed to be to use the shower and the room was the size of a broom cupboard, was there for work so no choice in hotel!
Singapore: if you don't need a pool then there is more choice in the "boutique" part of the market if you want to cut costs a bit. If you want a nice pool area then you'll have to go for a more upmarket one. Hotels in Singapore are quite pricey now but shop around and even check the hotels website as quite often I've got a better deal direct. The Rendezvous isn't bad as it's between Orchard Road and Raffles, downside is the bed is a bit hard and the pool looses the sun during the afternoon. A good all rounder is the Swissotel Stamford or Merchant Court. My current FAV is the Fullerton Bay, it has an amazing roof top pool but isn't cheap but is a nice treat! However, you'll find that most 3 start hotels are clean and comfortable however, do not stay at the Golden Landmark, I think it's been refurbished but we stayed there for one night (on a Singapore Airlines $1 deal) once and NEVER again!!!

The last time we were in Paris we stayed near the airport quite deliberately. Quick free transfer to hotel and dump the luggage. Back to the airport to get the airport bus into the centre - reasonable, frequent and uncrowded. Reverse at day's end. It's fine for 2 or 3 days and brilliant if you have an early or late flight. You can also hire a car and have somewhere to park it if you want to see somewhere outside the CBD.

How many travelling? For families, it's much cheaper and nicer to stay at serviced apartments. We used www.paristay.com 2 years ago and got a really nice and spacious 2-bedroom apartment near Louvre for about half the price of 2 decent hotel rooms. Many of them have minimum 1 week stay requiremnt though.
