Another star in the heavens?
British astronomer and broadcaster Sir Patrick Moore has died, aged 89, his friends and colleagues have said.
He "passed away peacefully at 12:25 this afternoon" at his home in Selsey, West Sussex, they said in a statement.
Sir Patrick presented the BBC programme The Sky At Night for over 50 years, making him the longest-running host of the same television show ever.
He wrote dozens of books on astronomy and his research was used by the US and the Russians in their space programmes.
Described by one of his close friends as "fearlessly eccentric", Sir Patrick was notable for his habit of wearing a monocle on screen and his idiosyncratic style.

I may not have agreed with a lot of his views, but he was an incredibly clever guy, as well as being a wonderful eccentric. May he rest on peace and shine on up there somewhere!

My sister would say "forever stardust" - I used to do impressions of him, and loved watching The Sky at Night.

Everyone today seems to anodyne, particularly in the media. He was one of the last great British eccentrics and passionate about Astronomy.
The world is a little less interesting, a little less colourful.

I caught a train from Manchester to London, and he was sprawled across a seat- no entourage, which surprised me greatly. He was nice and approachable to the odd person who asked for an autograph.

He was brill.
Many years ago he was on tele (even if only for 10 mins) after our bedtime but we were allowed to stay up and watch him.
