I blame social media, Facebook for one regularly posts from peoples timelines from 1,2,5 etc years ago, people misread this, take it as new news and put it on their timeline, therefore the myth gets promulgated.

Yep, and I was living in Dubai when he died the first time so news was very censored and must have missed it the first time around.
