Default Another baggage allowance question !!

I was under the impression once you have validated your visa they you are only entitled to the standard 20 kg baggage allowance.

We have just made enquires about our flights in January to fly with Singapore airlines and they are adament we are still entitled to 40 kg despite us telling them we had already validated.

Should we get in touch with Singapore airlines ourselves just to comfirm and if they say yes get it in writing ...or do we take the Travel agents word

Don't trust the travel agent.
Contact the airline direct.

I believe this is the email u will get from Singapore Airlines re extra baggage:

Hi,

Thank you for your email regarding migrant baggage allowance. The
baggage allowance in Economy Class is 20kgs.

Passengers emigrating to Australia in Economy Class are entitled to
double baggage allowance if holding the correct visa.

The visa must be an unused migrant visa that states to remain in
Australia indefinitely. If you are holding this visa you will be
entitled to 40kgs baggage allowance on showing the visa at check in.

You can have as many items of luggage as you wish providing 1 item alone
does not exceed 32kgs for health and safety purposes.

If you are not holding the correct visa then we will only be able to
waive 5kgs to bring the total baggage allowance to 25kgs. This again
will be upon check in.

Its approximately GBP30.00 per per extra kg if taking excess baggage.

All passengers are entitled to 1 main piece of hand luggage at 7kgs.
Hand luggage allowance can not be exceeded 45 x 56 x 25cms in size.

Yours Sincerely

Kind regards
Singapore Airlines

Here's their reply email to this question from 2003....

"As long as you are holding a migrant visa that hasn't been stamped
before and it has the words " mig " on it, we will authorise double baggage
allowance of 40kgs. You can book through a travel agent if you prefer
and once they have sighted your visa, they should issue the tickets with
40kgs allowance on them."
Okey Dokey....will call them first thing.

Cheers

Excess Baggage Company have counters in all the terminals at Heathrow and Gatwick - we paid about £2.50kg I think and they also have sea freight if you're not in a hurry

We flew with Singapore and got 32kg's each. We had previously validated our visa's and couldn't get the full amount. We rang them and asked for more. They agreed to 32 from the 20 that we had.
