1] Australia is brash and blunt in the work place - some more than others. Sometimes its not said out of spite or meant intentionally but it appears so. In this regard some people (perhaps more of the timid variety) would find that difficult. 2] Migration in general is tough and stressful. In a few situations you will need to stand toe to toe, be it estate agents, govt officials, flight crew:sneaky: My observation is you take people out of their support network of close friends and family and see what grit they have. Some don't thats life. :) Why does everything you say make sense?. Genius  |

If you mean migration is the toughest thing in the world then no offence but I very much doubt it, I'd rather emigrate than have a terminal illness.
I don't think northernbird was suggesting that it was the worst thing ever. I can think of a lot tougher things like immigrating, dying in a painful fashion, loosing a loved one, etc. I'm sure she was just trying to say that immigration can be one of the toughest life changes many of us will go through. |

I replied and then deleted. It is too early to deal with smart arse comments like that. Having lost my Mum to cancer at 49 I obviously know that dealing a with a terminal illness is worse than migrating.

What I can't believe is the thread on supermarkets! Apparently if you're happier with fewer options then you're generally a better person. And what supermarket you choose determines whether you like Oz or not.
And you're not allowed hanker for something you liked 'back home' or it means you're not settling/integrating/are a racist (ok, i made that last one up ). Maybe the heat in Aus is getting to people??! tx |

There was no smart arsed comment, I was replying to what you wrote that immigrating was the toughest thing in the world. Sometimes wording things differently stops the confusion as I have found out myself.

Thanks for the positive feedback, IMO a forum's no good if people aren't going to post because of fear of negative comments. Most people can answer question's in a civilised manner but there's a certain few who just wanna piss on your chips!

There was no need to correct my wording, it was smart arse as far as I was concerned. I should have put 'can be the hardest thing in the world for some' There was no need to add the bit about terminal illness.

Re: It amazes me how people react to threads!
I think the OP has a valid point. It is important to answer the question. This is how a thread on shampoo importation should go.
Poster 1: Can I bring my shampoo to Australia. Poster 2: Yes Poster 3: You stupid cow, why do you want to bring shampoo to Australia? They have plenty here. Poster 4: She shouldn't use shampoo at all, she should use butter. I use butter all the time and it makes my hair feel great. Poster 1: Can I import butter to Australia? Poster 2: No. Poster 3. Poster 4, you are an idiot. Butter will attract flies. Poster 4: Poster 3, I can use butter if I want to use butter. You have no right to tell me what I can and can't use. Poster 5: Butter's good for measles. Poster 6: My daughter has measles, will I catch it? POster 4: If you wash your hair in butter you'll destroy the environment and it contributes to global warming. POster 7: There's no such thing as global warming. Poster 8: Poster 7 you are a heretic and world destroying skeptic and need to be burned at the stake. Poster 7: Poster 8 you are a gullible idiot, global warming is a conspiracy to stop us using oil. Poster 1: How much is shampoo in Australia? Poster 9: Depends what brand. Poster 8: Poster 7, did you not see how hot it got in Melbourne?? We only have a few years before the world's temperature exceeds 200 degrees! Poster 1: Timotei. Poster 7: I have no time for eco-loonies. Etc etc. |
