For goodness sakes.... there's reading into things!

I don't think northernbird was suggesting that it was the worst thing ever. I can think of a lot tougher things like immigrating, dying in a painful fashion, loosing a loved one, etc.

I'm sure she was just trying to say that immigration can be one of the toughest life changes many of us will go through.

I quite agree :) altho think OP not trying to say that everyone should agree with everyone else and not express an opinion, but is rather wondering why people feel the need to be well just plain horrible / holier than thou / superior for no apparent reason. Doesn't make me 'nervous' to post or 'afraid' to post, I just find it off-putting at times & am reluctant to get involved with a bunch of people who carry this negative kind of vibe and can be so sh*tty & critical of people they don't know, at the drop of a hat. Hence it pays to remember that while such people tend to be the loudest in here, they are also the minority.

I replied and then deleted. It is too early to deal with smart arse comments like that. Having lost my Mum to cancer at 49 I obviously know that dealing a with a terminal illness is worse than migrating.

There was no smart arsed comment, I was replying to what you wrote that immigrating was the toughest thing in the world. Sometimes wording things differently stops the confusion as I have found out myself.

There was no need to correct my wording, it was smart arse as far as I was concerned. I should have put 'can be the hardest thing in the world for some' There was no need to add the bit about terminal illness.

I think any rational person would assume that you meant the hardest thing excluding death, rape, going insane etc. some people just like to score a cheap point

I think the OP has a valid point. It is important to answer the question. This is how a thread on shampoo importation should go.

Poster 1: Can I bring my shampoo to Australia.
Poster 2: Yes
Poster 3: You stupid cow, why do you want to bring shampoo to Australia? They have plenty here.
Poster 4: She shouldn't use shampoo at all, she should use butter. I use butter all the time and it makes my hair feel great.
Poster 1: Can I import butter to Australia?
Poster 2: No.
Poster 3. Poster 4, you are an idiot. Butter will attract flies.
Poster 4: Poster 3, I can use butter if I want to use butter. You have no right to tell me what I can and can't use.
