Eeek, that's a toughy. What does everyone in the family feel? Think of your Mum too - what would be worse for her - not having you at her party or having to say goodbye again so soon.

It must be hard - we actually decided to go out later than originally planned so that we don't miss my mum's 60th in April. If you can afford to go then go - I would probably make it a bit longer than a week though.

It would be a real treat for her.
You dont know the future and I think if you have ways and means to go to her birthday then do so.
And how nice would it be to surprise her.

I don't envy your dilema.
We (visa permitting) were planning to move out in January as Its my Mums
50th in December and i'm an only child and didn't want to miss it. I don't know what we will do if we got our visa sooner than expected.
Its so hard being torn between family and new life when its a special occasion.
Sorry for not helping much.
BTW i've just looked at your blog and was LMAO about the stuff at the side of the road comment, will have to remember that one sounds like you've done well from it.
Good luck with your decision.

Well I wouldn't but then my mother is different from yours She has not long gone back though, but it's up to you guys. If you can run to it then go for it but it's a hefty chunk of your extension money presumably.

If you're that close and you can afford it - then why not?

Re: Am i soooooo wrong
thanks you lot
Just you wait Fraser!!!
As much as i really want to go, i wont be heading back, in the cold light of day i need to be practical (why i dont know but hey ho)
I can only go back for a week, i would have to take the girls, its a very long journey for such a short time plus we have only been here 6 months and i'm going through a home sick patch so probably not the best time to jump on a plane home
and as Pen said, its a fair chunk of our extension money.
I'm not working regularly yet either so only Alans money (and that only goes so far and never far enough)
SO i shall make a dvd up for her, take bucket loads of piccies to send over and look forward to her coming over here next April
We will definately go back next October and stay for 3 weeks to make it count!
oh just wanted to add, i do speak to her 3 times a week on the phone and at least 2 times a week on web cam as do the girls, and that still upsets her, i think it might be too much for her emotionally if we do head back for her birthday!
