Re: Alpacas help
When you get them please can you test whether they eat avocados? I'd love to get some but don't want them eating the profits ;)

We found that shearing isn't just a man coming to do it all for you, you end up doing a lot of hard work. Personally shearing is the biggest reason not to have any. They do spit, but normally only at each other or if you try and touch a baby whilst it's mother is near by. If you do get spat at then its 2 showers minimum to get rid of the stink, a few days if they manage to spit in your ear or up your nose. never stand between 2 females at feeding time, thats a guaranteed flob in the ear. Where to get some, try here http://www.alpacaseller.com/index.php?Country=Australia you will also need to be able to castrate the males, give 5 in one injections and ADE injections. You could get a vet out to do it but it soon gets too expensive for that. Toenails.... least said about that the better, apart from you do need to clip thier nails at least twice a year, and they don't like having it done. And I didn't like doing it. Not much else to say except they most definately are not pets, they are probably the closest to a pet of any farm animal, but still you wont be having an intimate cuddle with one any time soon. Hope this helps |
