Could be something to do with the rule that says you have to vote or risk getting fined.

Re: To All You Eligible Voters Out There
I just got back from participating in the great festival of democracy.
Whatever the result I love election day. It's better than a grand final.....
Obviously I've got a preferred outcome, but, failing that, I'll settle for being able to vote for my preferred candidates without risk of torture, imprisonment or death for marking the "wrong" box. We're still a lucky country.
The cool bit (beside casting a vote) about my voting experience was the sausage sizzle... it was utterly traditional fare... a tasteless Coles-meat-floor-scapings-stuffed-into-a-sausage-casing style snag, burnt to incompetent volunteered husband perfection, in a white slice of bread with a strip of tomato sauce... an utter complete waste of $2 but voting is just not the same without i

I'll just sit back on my chez lounge and sip another cocktail whilst planning another overseas holiday safe in the knowledge that I have just earned another $500 between posts by doing nothing other than having an efficient business, loyal customers and most importantly fantastic staff........ and I'm the thick one?

You're wasting your breath trying to argue with them dude - that moral high ground is mighty high in their own minds.

There is no equivalent of the conservative party here. You've either got left of centre of very left of centre.
So all that socialists have to decide is how much of a raving socialist they are. Its either, 'take half my money, I don't need it', or 'take even more, money is the creation of the capitilist pig dogs, and I wish to help some bogan mates purchase special brew and a pack of Benson&Hedges with money I would have otherwise squandered'.

Anyone mortgaged to the hilt will be shitting themselves at the prospect of KRUDD getting in. Massive public spending &huge inflation will be the kiss of death for the house building industry. It's a big choice vote Rudd & lose my home & my livelihood or vote Howard/Costello & hope they can reel in spending & control inflation.
The vote for Rudd campaign is based on what? Vote for me because it's time for a change:curse: Fools

But
Much Higher Interest Rates/+fqd up inflation
But in doing so, we get to have less spending money on fags and booze... meaning less ppl in hospital, less fatigue on the police, and kids getting to school earlier, therefore education police and health, all benefit.
Its wonderous

There are rather too many personal comments creeping into this thread - try and keep it objective please.

1) Iraq
2) failure to act on climate change
3) work-choices
As for massive inflation under labour - I think you'll find that this kind of scaremongering is trotted out at every single election, by every party, in every country on earth.
Inflation will go up, consequently interest rates will go up. By how much & for how long, no one knows. Not even Mystic meg. Seriously cresta57, inflation is not aligned with the left or the right....it is a consequence of global effects and fiscal policy.
I suspect that the attitude that you have towards the vote is as follows - "Everything is ok with me at the moment, why change? Why should I move out of my comfort zone?".
I believe that our leaders should be held accountable for their actions, not let off just because the global economy has favoured Oz over the past 5yrs and has made many people better off.
Cresta57 - I believe that public spending would be similar under labour or the coalition, based on the similarities of the policies. I think your statements above are unfounded.
ps - people on this thread have been saying that Labour have promised cheaper petrol/oil ?!!! Whereabouts have you guys seen this ? Or, have you made it up...

Well, the fundamental reasons why Howard will be voted out are as follows:
1) Iraq
2) failure to act on climate change
3) work-choices

1) Iraq..... What would labour have done? Either not sent troops in the first place or pulled them out earlier than Howard hardly the big issue it's made up to be. Surely the caring compassionate labour govt. wouldn't have left the Iraqis to their own devices?
2) failure to act on climate change............ And what will Labour do there close down all the mines? Plant a few trees to apease the Greenies? Impose higher taxes on fuel? Nope they want to make it cheaper!
3) work-choices.......... Well I've yet to meet one person who is worse off under a work choices agreement. Most are on above ward rates with better working choices than they previously had. Even Labour couldn't find examples & had to employ actors posing as workers.
If inflation is not aligned to left or right then why has it skyrocketed under every labour govt for the last 30 yrs? Hardly scaremongering is it the figures speak for themselves!
I lived with the effects of the last recession, I watched people lose everything. I have a home loan for a house I like living in. No one will pay my mortgage if the building industry goes into economic meltdown. I'll be the person handing the keys to my home to the repo company. No I think I'll stick with the bloke who's done a damn good job sorting out the shit state the last labour govt left the country in.
I'll look forward to the next election, when we've had a few short years of labour mismanagement & see how peoples opinions have changed.
