So, let me get this right. The courts want you to put in extra effort and money so that they can continue to do nothing?

The court just wants to make sure that you have understand what you are agreeing to because on the face of it the settlement doesn't look fair - it is probably nothing to do with your ex or her lawyers. If you want the matter finalised you may have to sign a stat dec stating that you understand the agreement between you (I am guessing that it is a Consent Order) and you have sought independent advice etc etc. that should put an end to the matter.

I got divorced in Australia ... we just did the basic divorce and divided the property ourselves with no lawyers involved, no special agreements signed etc... neither of us attended the courts either..

have you actually read all the docs and know exactly what is required to get divorced.?

maybe things have changed

This all sounds a bit strange to me..

Prob should explain that divorce wont be poss until next year, we are now legally seperated, she listened to her friends and panicked even though i said i wanted nothing and went to family solicitor. He drew up post nup,i signed it in front of JP and thought that was the end of it,as Hebe stated, court thought this unfair and now want something from me to clarify im happy with situation, but im fecked if im paying solicitor fees:thumbdown:

I don't know the system here but in the UK at the end of a divorce you are wise to do a Consent Order (many people fail to do these). This usually stops any future claims against each other - a divorce doesn;t do that. this document goes before a judge for approval - you don't have to attend

I will add that a friend of mine here in Australia has just been stung for the very same thing - settled on divorce - no consent order - within 2 years she had inherited - he came back for more.
