Re: 6 UK men arrested for burning the Koran
Maybe things have changed but I remember a case about 20 years ago where someone defamed Christ. At that time there was a law specifically against defaming Christ or Christianity but nothing to protect other religions or icons.
Can't remember the outcome. Couldn't really give a monkeys. Any religion that can't take a bit of sledging without resorting to threats is not a secure religion.

Flying this 'Crusades flag' would probably have you in big trouble... definite incitement. Perhaps they shouldn't fly it at any of the medal ceremonies just incase it upsets people?

That'll be okay as St George was a Turk!

Funny that most people seem to think that he was a Turk. I've no idea how that became a popular belief.
I'm reasonable sure that it's excepted that he, if he really existed at all, was a Christian from what is now Israel and was then part of the Roman Empire.

"It is likely that Saint George was born to a Christian noble family in Lod, Syria Palaestina during the late third century between about 275 AD and 285 AD, and he died in Nicomedia.[1][2] His father, Gerontius, was a Roman army official from Cappadocia and his mother was from Palestine. They were both Christians and from noble families of Anici, so by this the child was raised with Christian beliefs."

However, the turks were more widespread then than modern Turkey.
From the top of my head I thought he was born in a town that is now in modern Turkey, spent most of his life around what is now Tel Aviv and was a soldier in the Roman Empire who used to take on locals.

Yeah I know, but its something that's always quoted, that he was a Turk. I used to think the same myself for years and then read something that suggested otherwise. From what I can remember that Wiki piece is pretty accurate... if anything can be considered accurate about a legendary figure from 1800 years ago !
