Default 3 explosions at Boston Marathon

Dreadful scenes at the finish line of the Boston marathon.
At the moment there are 2 dead and multiple injuries. A tragic end to a day that should have been about achievement and charity.

This is horrific, some really terrible images doing the rounds online, am listening to coverage on the BBC.

I have cousins in Boston, hoping they are all ok.

I hope we get to find out the story. Apparently a Saudi National was arrested

interesting to see how it pans out and if the powers that be use this as an excuse to further oppress the US public or head off and murder some more shepherds and their families in Afghanistan.

This is no 9/11 though. I'd be surprised if this changed US foreign policy.

Latest update is that no suspects are in custody, there is no-one being monitored/questioned at the hospital.

There were five separate car bombings in Iraq yesterday, and 19 people were killed. Interesting that doesn't seem terribly newsworthy...

Quite, but we expect carnage and antics in the Middle East.

Badge is right about his expectation comment, I think.

Yes, he is - I posted only to convey some sense of perspective.

I work with quite a few Americans, and they are all here crying and being sick - It's like there's some sort of group psychosis that connects them, despite the fact that none of them have any connection with either Boston, or anybody involved.

Hmmmm......see where you are coming from, and you pinpoint an American malaise.
To be fair, I have met British people who shed tears after disasters, more through horror and empathy than due to some tabloid gameshow need to connect and share.

It's not the symptom, it's the underlying psych.....

We had the same conversation last night. Perhaps we identify with Americans more? Or maybe it is to do with expectation.
We were more shocked at the Boston bombings than we were about the Iraqi ones, and yet in both cases, innocent people with families who loved them, died.

I balled my eyes out at work and had to be sent home when I seen the news regarding the Dunblane massacre all those years ago. I had nothing to do with the town itself, although it was a short drive away from my home town in relative terms. (I lived in Torquay at the time).

I do agree with Swervo though, in that children are being blown up every day in the middle east and it's rarely reported.

I also agree with what you said too Badge, it's perhaps because it is expected in the middle east.

No matter what, what has happened in Boston is terrible and those poor people must have been terrified. Even though it's not another 9/11, it could have been in their eyes I'm sure, at the time.

I hear ya, I've just had that conversation with a colleague.

He recounted that he was in the US when the Bali bombings happened.

Extensive news coverage? Nope ...

I'm sorry about the people affected by mindless acts of violence and all that but ...

Only two bombs and blame the Arabs time. Will Sikhs get bashed again?

You must be the forum's expert on military operations in the Middle East then.
