Sorry to the Mods, but I have to ask.... do you have Airconditioning in every room??? Now I know a house that has no burgler bars (I'm sure there is more than just one) but they certainly do keep those windows and doors open all day, while they are home..
Just wondering.. and why do you need double glazed glass on your windows and doors in Barbados anyway.. would it keep the house cooler??? and I'd still have to have burglar bars..so I could keep them open..

Forget that, Burglar bars all the way in this day and age !! I also thought this very strange having double glazed windows, the place must be swelteringly hot !!!

My house is very cool, thank you. You can keep the heat out by using double glazing. A double glazed window has two sheets of glass with a space in the middle. The space between the panes varies, depending on the window size and thickness of the glass. There is a spacer that is placed between the two windowpanes along the frames and the glass is sealed.
What a double glazed window will do is will stop heat transfer. Because of the partial vacuum between the panes, heat transfer by convection and conduction is stopped. So without spoiling the view or requiring the curtains to be drawn, the windows will keep the heat out and the house cool.
I hope you all will have a better understanding of the concept of doubleglazing.
Therefore no money is needed for air-conditioning. I love the coolness of my house and people who visit really find the house very cool and sometimes cold which I find very funny.

not to worry.. I already understood the concept of double glazing (being from North American and all that).. but why would you want to close up your house with those windows and miss out on the breeze and all that....
beyond me.. I'll keep my burglar bars, single pane glass, shutters and cool Caribbean breeze.. thanks..
