Default Shipping sofa to barbados

Hi,
I have been looking at furniture to furnish our home in barbados and have been finding it very difficult to find nice corner sofas similar to the ones in the uk. The ones I found in barbados are soo very expensive and not very nice; So I am wondering if it would work out cheaper to buy it here in the uk and then ship it to barbados. But does any1 know the cost associated with doing this?

I know this is almost a year later but hubby and I shipped all of our stuff in a container to BIM. It was really an easy thing to do. Shipping to BIM is easy, the difficulty you may encounter will be with the Port officials.

Hi Roses
I would be interested in hearing how you got on with importing your furniture as we will be trying to do the same thing this summer - was it fairly straightforward after all?

When I shipped my household effects from the UK.. although 2 and a half years ago.. it was very easy.. My removals/shipping company collected in the UK and moved the container to Barbados. Their agent here simply delivered it, sealed, to my home.

Along with the container came customs and environmental officials. When the container was opened they inspected the contents to ensure it complied with the shipping list and there was nothing to cause any environmental probs (they were looking basically at wooden items).

We had no problems and the customs officials made their pronouncement there and then on the level of duty needed... we actually didn't have to pay a thing.. but I understand that is hugely unusual...

Hope this helps..

Ian

Hi, can you suggest which shipping/moving company to use? I've got a 1 bed flat with the usual furniture. Thanks
