Hopefully from Harry Husbands mouth to Gods ears.. and since Mr. Hubands is the Parliamentary Secretary in the Prime Ministry's Office (specifically in the office of Immigration and The Social Partnership) maybe the immigration department will actually change and upgrade with the times..

Re: Immigration Article in Advocate
sorry gang.. I had a senior moment.. it was the back page of the Advocate on Saturday. what I should have done is saved the picture and put it on here. now it's gone. Maybe I'll see if I can write to someone there to see if they can send me the article. There is another one today.. it reads as follows:
Firms told: Get to know Immigration department
9/19/2010
Businesses which are currently registered in Barbados, as well as those who plan on setting up their operations here, are being urged to familiarize themselves with the policies of the Immigration Department.
This call has come from Parliamentary Secretary in the Prime Minister’s Office (Immigration and Social Partnership), Senator Harry Husbands, as he spoke during the Democratic Labor Party’s weekly lunchtime lecture on Friday at the George Street Auditorium.
During his speech on the topic entitled ‘Some Aspects of Immigration Policy and and of the Social Partnership,’ he encouraged both businesses and Barbadians who were looking to go into progressive ventures that they should recognize the Immigration Department as one of the most important agencies, and as such they should get to know them and their operations as thoroughly as possible.
“If you go to the Immigration department and you do not have the proper documentation, some people will complain that it took them eight months before they received their passport.
However, they don’t realize that it took eight months because they had to be sent back three or four times because they didn’t come prepared with the necessary documentation.
And then some people attempt to hold the Immigration Department to ransom, not in an illegal sense, but a person would think that because they have invested three million dollars, therefore they are entitled to a work permit.
It doesn’t quite work like that, because work permits are not for sale.” he pointed out.
He stressed the need for businesses to see the Immigration Department, as well as for the department to see itself as one of the key agencies in this country.
He also highlighted the need for Government to raise the profile of the Immigration department to be a key partner in some of the decisions which Government had to make.
