Calling Bajanboy ...(or anyone who can help)
I was born in Barbados but moved to the UK when I was 7. After 25 years and a divorce I am thinking of moving back for good.
I work in IT (I pretty much do a bit of everything), and was wondering what the prospects are for finding employment in this field.
The only people I can question concerning this are my grandmother and some uncles (Christ Church), but as they are pretty old I rather not.
I tried to gather some info regarding this on the internet but prefer inside information.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Many Thanks.
Justinian

Hi Justinian:
You might find the salaries low here, but I would advise you to set up your own business doing PC repair and networking. Most of the PC repair places charge $100 - $150 per hour plus vat, so it does not take many jobs to make ends meet. You could perhaps offer retainers (work at a fixed monthly price)to businesses to build up a guaranteed level of income and then go after other clients. Working in PC repair for someone else or in a computer shop might earn you $2500 a month, so it is clear that working on your own is the better option.

other option is getting into IT positions in resorts and hotels. They always are recruiting for those positions.

Thanks. I did google for info but not much came back - none that I could make sense of anyway. I also had a look on Monster (working abroad) and some other sites but drew blanks.
I will have a look at those sites you suggested. Thanks again.
PS: Apologises for the bad grammar used to start the thread. It was a long night.

Justinian--try the BB Yellow Pages OnLine: http://barbadosyp.com/
You really have to use your brainpower to figure out where your skills are applicable and then just mail, mail, mail resumes. I think Hotels would be a good start, I am sure that many if not most have dedicated IT consultants.
Good luck...
