You're not kidding.. I would have been laying by the side of the road in AZ because I'd passed out from the heat.. LOL. I've been drenched both times I've been walking and loved every second of it.

Shame about the flat.
Make sure to mention in the pub and in the paper shop that you are looking for a house share or flat share or small place to live in. You'll find people making suggestions and letting others know.

Funny you should say that.....if you read my earlier post on this thread you'll see what i mean.:rofl:

So happy to read your update but really sorry about the flat. I'm sure it will all work out though. My favourite part - "the shops". Can't remember the last time I heard someone saying they were going to the shops. Here people run errands or go grocery shopping. You can help me speak English again before I get back in a couple of months!

So happy for you

Thanks love...and to be honest it just came out and I didn't think about it...lol Probably because I've always said it..

Just think, it won't be long before you're back yourself:thumbsup::thumbsup: Time to celebrate huh? :drinkwine:

On my first night here I went to the Diggle Hotel for dinner as most of you know. I got to know the landlady really well and we'd chat while I ate. I went again last night and OMG the food, I had what was called Bury Chicken, which is 2 cooked chicken breasts and in between they have black pudding, cheese and bacon, and then more cheese is on top and it's all grilled. All served with a pile of chips. :)

After eating as much of it as I could (I'm ashamed to say I had to leave most of the chips because I was stuffed because of the chicken.. lol), the landlady (I'll call her Ms A) came over and we started chatting again. She asked me how I was liking the B&B and apparently she had stayed here too not too long ago, but had to move out because it was too expensive long term. I found myself telling her about the flat and how it didn't work out and then you could have knocked me over with a feather when she said ' I have a little one bedroom cottage up the road you can have if you want?' Apparently she bought the cottage after leaving the B&B and then when the pub offer came up she moved out of the cottage and now lives in the pub.

She even drove me up to take a look at it, which probably wasn't advisable because it's so darn cute! Lounge room, kitchen, bathroom and toilet downstairs and then you open a door and there is a set of stairs taking you upstairs to the bedroom. Its just up the road from the pub so still within walking distance of everything. The only drawback is the price. Apparently this is an expensive area to live (naturally..lol), so she wants £500 for the cottage and then on top of that there is all the usual bills and £125 per month Council Tax. So there's no way I could manage that. I'd be broke in 3 months ! Pity, because it's really nice !

But how nice of her to ask me! She said she wants someone there she can trust and to think she only met me 3 days ago.. We even talked about how I can't rent a place through an agent because they'd probably ask me for 6mths rent up front as I have no UK credit history and she said 'that's rubbish'.. lol She gave me the name of an agent and said to check them out and she'd even give me a reference/recommendation as she knows them!

Nice to know I have options now !:thumbsup:

Oh, I'm not worried about you, love. Looks like you'll land on your feet in no time

And as for the weather, I'd rather be drenched with rain out walking than with Florida sweat any day

That's the idea! Talk to people as you are doing and you make good contacts who can perhaps help you find a place to live. You'll find one soon, I know it!!

Update number 3 already! As much as I loved getting soaked and walking in the rain...I'm suffering for it now..so if you don't hear from me for a few days you'll understand why. At the moment I'm curled up in bed with my laptop on my knee, the radiator is on, I'm in my jammies and fluffy socks and I still can't stop shaking. I had a bit of a cough this morning, but didn't think anything of it...but during the course of the day it got worse, and now I'm hacking up a lung.. Ick !!! I think it was a combination of both the rain and the strong COLD winds that did it !

So it's Sunday tomorrow and I'm going to just curl up in bed, rub Vicks on my chest and cough it all out! I feel like death warmed up, but I'm sure with some extra sleep and plenty of fluids I'll be fine by Monday. :)

Talk about being a wuss! I've just been in Arizona for so long that my body acclimatised to the heat and the warmth, so suddenly going from that to biting cold winds, rain and colder temps my body didn't know what was going on.. lol. It was 10C both days I went walking and it's 5C right now. Definitely not Arizona weather. LOL

I'll talk to you all in a day or two, and hopefully have some updates on my time back home.

Great to read your updates. When you move to a new area...let alone a different country...your body comes into contact with germs it's not used to...therefore you tend to get sick easily. That together with the extreme change in climate is bound to play havoc with your body.

Stay warm and look after yourself...I look forward to reading update #4. :)

Add to that the stress of moving and your resistance gets really low. Feel better soon!

Flying for many hours in a confined space can do this to you - lots of germs on planes! Also, your body has to get immunity to local/British germs all over again!:eek:

Get lots of rest and drink tea, tea, tea :)

What I find amazing about the UK that in 17 years I have not found here in USA, is how easy it is to strike up a conversation with people and get useful information from them.
I hope you find a lovely flat of your very own soon though and you sound as though (despite the rain, cold wind and now nasty cough) you're finally where you're supposed to be. It certainly looks beautiful there judging by the pictures you've posted :)

It's so true...all the time I've been out on walks I've yet to meet someone who didn't either say good morning or strike up a conversation. You get to see the same faces so they're asking how you're doing. Even one guy who regularly fishes in the same spot and sees me all the time, asked me if I'd recovered from the drenching the other day..... :)

Thanks I.G. :) Staying warm for sure and looking out the window to see all the dark rain clouds. Expecting it to pour down later, but I'll be inside where it's nice and warm :)

Thanks love....all those web sites you mentioned, I've already been on and check regularly :) Something will turn up..in fact a little while ago I saw the guy who'd moved into the flat here at the B&B and he was leaving with some boxes, so maybe he's moving out? maybe his wife took him back? No-one is home to ask right now, but as soon as I see someone I'm going to be nosey enough to ask.
