I am from Iparralde ( French part for those who don´t know).

I second that, although I am not a regular user of Michelin starred restos, the concentration of them are really high, and Basque restos take more places in the top 20-50 restos in the world. San Sebastian is the 'capital' for this in the region.

This all creates and snowballs down a wonderful food culture at all levels - and levels more on our normal price bracket

Hi you two, yes it was a great afternoon & one we often think about. Hope you are both well xx

We had lunch with our Spanish friends, one of whom is a several generations an Ayamontean (sp) - they aren't aware of any sociedads here. They also thought it was more of a Northern Spain thing, but couldn't explain why there is one in Lanzarote and why the BBC said they were common on the mainland.

Oh well... cant have it all!

Strange - google shows a number in Huelva province. But I'm sure your friends are right and not keeping them secret

Hi Mike

Search for Sociedades gastronómicas .

There are mainly from the Basque Country . I suppose there are basque people living in lanzarote

I´m afraid that there are not secret sociedades
