Re: Your tips for money saving and living on a budget in Australia
There have been a few threads recently where people have asked if they can live on $55,000 - $60,000 in Australia.
Some people think you can - others think it would be a struggle.
What tips do you have for saving money? It could be bargains in certain shops, cheapest fuel suppliers, a cheap yet healthy recipe, low cost mortgage - absolutely anything that will help people save a bob or two.
In the U.K there is a site called moneysavingexpert.com. Perhaps there is something similar for Australia.
All tips welcome

Result!!! Enough food and beer to last the week....
Next weekend, do it all again!!!

Take out a certain amount of money every week from the bank. Do not use your cards. It is amazing the appreciation you can have from really understanding what you are spending when passing 'hard readies' over the counter.

Ahhh, see I am totally the oposite. If I take cash out I spend every bit and have no idea where it is gone.
So I just use efpos, so I don't have loose change to spend on things I don't need, and can see exactly where I spent it.

Rather than just saving money, increase your income.
How to boost your income-with a clear conscience
E.g We have 2 student homestays paying us $250/week each tax-free.

Hello
If you live in Sydney - get down to Paddy's Market on the weekend and buy all your fruit and veg, less than half price of the supermarkets and better quality!

Wendy i cant figrue out how you manage to shop on $300 a fortnight
i pick up the specials, avoid brand names (for most things) keep things like meat etc down to a strict price per kg ... and my big cost cutting push this last couple of weeks has still cost me $420 for the fortnight!?!
I do buy quite a lot of fruit and veg which works out fairly expensive but even then i try to pick up things in season to keep the costs down.
On the other hand i homemake most of our bread and send the kids to school with packed lunches.
how on earth do you manage $300? come on give us the secret!

Become Swingers and get everyone to come to yours on a Saturday night (good excuse to hold regular parties without being considered alkies). Get em to bring a dish, booze and then before they get a chance to eat or drink, shag em all out and send em home!!!
