I sold in 2003 for 268K pounds and bought 780K$ plus 50K on costs I have a bigger house but not as well built and a 500K 30 year mortgage. I also know I bought in an expensive area. My house is on the low end of the market in which I bought.

Sold UK properties in 2002 and had about £150K equity to bring over and bought in Perth in 2yrs ago for $680K.

We decided a few years ago to make big jumps infrequently (and in the meantime save and overpay the mortgage) rather than frequent little jumps so we didn't keep shelling out a fortune in moving costs which can add up to a lot of money, at present I'm thinking about a $500 to $600k mortgage on our next place which doesn't seem that much to me (and $1M doesn't buy that bigger house in the bits of Sydney we like best).

I think houses have gone up considerably Janey. You must have sold your house for alot more than $181K, so you would know how much they have risen!

To the OP - it doesnt matter what your house costs, as long as you are happy living there .
Yes, we sold for $230 (I think around that figure) now theres nothing under $280 in that area.
