If I explain to them that I'm not going to bugger off travelling that should stand me in good stead right? I'm moving to the Central Coast in June, having a month off to settle in before I start looking for work.

It is pretty much luck of the draw. Hubbie really struggled on a student visa to find ANY job, even applying for crappy ones. However he can only work 20hours a week, whereas you will be able to work full time. If you can find some maternity leave cover you would be laughing. Depending on your type of work, agencies would be a good start.
