Good question, but a very difficult one . Been here for over 20 years, well settled and very happy here , but every once in a while we ask ourselves the question, ' What if"?

Only human nature I reckon.

That really sucks. I think from reading on here and the MBttUK site that it's a 50:50 split on those who go back and it's like they've never left and those that go back and find it's all changed (or the people have) that they don't feel right there either. Hope I'm never in the position to find out which side I would fall on. Hope also that you find something or somewhere that's right for you.:)

Definatly not.

I knew from the moment I got off the plane in Melbourne I had made the biggest mistake of my life I hate it here. I have been in Melbourne for 3 years now. I still know no one what so ever, and am spending yet another Saturday night at home.

My relationship is about to fall apart, my family in the UK have fallen apart.
The worst thing I ever did was come here.

I wish it had never happened.

I know exactly how this feels. 16 years ago I followed my husband to the other side of our country for his job. On the way to the airport I started feeling a little twinge of "is this the right thing for me?" By the time our plane started taxiing down the runway for take off I was sobbing so loudly that a passenger across the aisle asked if I was ok. The crying didn't stop for the entire 5 hour flight.
We made a deal that if I didn't feel settled after 2 years then we would move back home. Just as the 2 years was coming to an end I ended up pregnant and my OB wouldn't let me travel as I was high risk. Once the baby came we stayed for another 8 months, so our original 2 years turned into 3 1/2.
We did move back to the area we came from and stayed for 11 years. We've now decided it's again time for a change, so came to Australia. We're all settled nicely here now, so things are good. Maybe in a few years it won't be so good but for us it's the right thing.
Perhaps you can suggest to your partner that you give another country a try for a set period of time. It doesn't have to be where you came from, but somewhere you can agree on. If you are suffering, then it's time for you to do something about it. Being unhappy is a terrible feeling.

Out of interest, who would have come out to Australia knowing what they know now.

If you could turn back the clock and never come here, would you and why?

Knowing what I know now, the only thing I would have changed is when I came out ten years ago, I should have bought a little plot near the Coolum coast for the future, to put a wee beach cottage on it. I wont get that now until we retire.

Like Moneypen said, I love the fact that my kids know their family in the UK and have an established relationship with them. I would not have changed a thing.

Happy as.
