Default Working in Pagewood living in Manly

Hi everyone,

I am moving to Sydney at the end of December and have a job in Pagewood. Ideally I would like to commute from Manly, I have researched the ferry and bus option which will take around 1h 20. Could you drive it in a reasonable time?

Thanks, Tony

Hi Tony and Welcome to BE. I think this commute is going to be really rough. The shortest one involves like 3 bus changes, that's too much IMO. Driving, I would guess North to South you'd be going more than 1-20 in a rush hour.

If you want to live near a beach, have you considered Bondi - Bronte - Coogee areas. Try 131500.com.au for trip planning, has maps and timetables to help you plan.

Go south. This commute looks like a nightmare and will wear you down. Sydney traffic is very busy and I think it would take well over your public transport time.

Thanks both, you have pretty much confirmed what I thought. I think I will concentrate my search around the area!

Thanks again for your help

there were a few links floating about, suburb profiles-crime rates and all that. Some suburbs around the airport get a bad rap, mainly due to ethnic violence.

A drive is no good either. In fact, unless you work in the city, commuting from Manly is dire

If you're working in Pagewood you should also consider Maroubra or Malabar (as beach suburbs) and possibly Botany or Chifley if you want more property for your money and don't mind not being right on the beach.

My missus took a job in Malabar (near Pagewood) and we would have loved to have lived in Manly but it was a definite no no with the commute. We ended up in Coogee and can't recommend it enough. Not as cool as Manly but not far off and a great lifestyle here. Better than Bondi. More lively than Clovelly or Bronte and more choice of property.

Bus might be a 40-45 min journey but the drive probably only around 15.
