Work Visas do not get caught out
Looks like the Aussies will use you as cheap labour if only on a work visa , watch the sods here its mine field out there.
UNIONS have urged a federal government review of immigration work visas after three South African chefs abandoned their claim for hundreds of thousands of dollars in back-pay from a Sydney restaurant.
The chefs came to Australia on sponsorship visas in 1998 to work at the Ribs and Rumps Grill and Seafood Restaurant in Manly, but said they received just $50 pay for their first week, and $7300 for the first year.
NSW Labor Council described the settlement as "a measure of justice on one level", but assistant secretary Chris Christodoulou said the law remained open for other employers to exploit immigrant workers.
"These workers are especially vulnerable," Mr Christodoulou said.
"They are in this country legally while sponsored by employers but as things stand, there are no penalties for employers who abuse this trust.
"Trade unions have made the government aware of dozens of instances where immigrant workers have been underpaid or otherwise exploited but so far, nothing has been done to close the loophole."
