Default Work in Oz

Has anyone else found it difficult and frustrating finding work out here? After just graduating from Uni before we left the UK for OZ its been a battle to even get any response or even acknowlegment from positions applied for. Also due to leaving straight after graduation i have no experience in the field of jobs i am applying for. Ideally i would like a graduate job but there seems to be a lack of these around at this time of year.

Correct me if I'm wrong - but isn't this a problem in the UK too? I mean, having great qualifications but no experience makes finding work difficult. Could you find out if companies have "graduate entry programmes" like they do in the UK? Maybe try approaching some companies directly.

What degree do you have by the way?

Cheers

Buzzy.

Yes you are correct, but its the lack of acknowledgment that is frustrating. Even an email response saying 'Thank you for your application but unfortunately this time you are unsuccessful' would be polite. I appreciate that finding work without experience is difficult whatever country but still you have to start somewhere!!
I have a Multimedia/Business degree.

Think the no reply is standard if past threads are anything to go by. Bad time of year for job hunting tho, things sort of shut down in Oz for christmas, 6 weeks summer hols, most things go quite as it gets hot and people go on hols. Many co's in many industries shut downs here over Xmas and most people have no choice but to take hols then, all revs up again late jan. What about a bit of casual work till then.

Is it mainly agencies or companies that are not acknowledging? Several OPs on here have complained agencies don't acknowledge no matter how experienced you are.

May I suggest you follow up every application with a phone call along the lines of - "Did you get my CV? Was it suitable for the position? When can we arrange to meet to discuss it further."

You *might* find you have to do some work that you consider you are overqualified for for 6 months or so to get a foot in the door.

Cheers

I am in a similar position to you having graduated in july this year. We have been here, regional Qld for nearly three months, and I have just started to send off my cv on spec to the type of organisations that I thoink would employ me. I sent out 8 letters two weeka ago and have had one phobne call saying they have nowt, two letters sayings they have nowt either, and one semi-interview for a post that may come up in the new year.
