Talking Work experience for NZ application

Does anyone know how the work experience is calculated for an application to NZ under the general skills category? I have had 3 main types of job but am waiting for my main qualification to be awarded October/November. I understand that with a job offer all experience is taken into account post qualification but the rules are very complicated for work experience pre qualification. It says something about 'having to follow a logical career pattern' and although experience gained from my previous jobs is used in my present job (and on which I have been offered a job) it probably doesn't follow a logical career pattern. Can anyone help please?

I've also applied under general skills and understood it to be work experience relevant to your job and qualifications - but I couldn't take into account my work experience while studying (ie at uni/college).

The NZIS website is quite helpful and has sections on each part of the application.
