Default Woodvale

Hi all,

I will be emigrating my family (wife and 5 children, 3,4,5,6 & 9) on a permanent visa to Woodvale on the 20th Feb 2010 and into a short term rental.

Can anyone advise on the area as having never been to the area we have only been able to go on what friends have told us.

I read some good things about Woodvale Primary and Woodvale in general.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Excited and nervous about the move....

If you click on "Search" at the top of the page Martin and type in "Woodvale", you should find some info there.

Good luck with the move.

My friend teaches at Woodvale Primary and it was a suburb we looked at when we came over. Nice established suburb with good facilities and a reasonable high school. You won't go far wrong living there.

I am here at the moment. What would you like to know?

Both primary schools are good as is the secodary school. St Stephen's and St Marks are not far away if you decide on private education and can get a place.

2 sets of food shops, one with IGA (open Sunday) and one with Woolworths. The shops at Whitfords Aveue have takeaways, banks and other specialist shops, petrol station and drive through bottle shop.

Well established area with older houses. Some decent rentals but don't limit yourself to Woodvale as Kingsley is just across the avenue and we saw some lovely rentals there too. Settled on Woodvale as we're just across the road from family.

Decent parks and Woodvale Waters is lovely for a walk and safe for children to play/bike rides.

You are 10 minutes from Whitfords, 15 minutes for joondalup and 20 from karinyup - all good shopping centres.

Depending on where you are in Woodvale you have 2 train stations to chose from. My local one is in walking distance.

Miutes from the freeway.

Let me know if i can help further.

You won't meet any Aussies there, it's little Britain. Great to settle in but kind of takes the fun away from putting yourself in a new place

I completely disagree with that. Everyone we know here with the exception of family is Australian. The school has mostly Australian students. I think if you go to areas more like Joondalup, kinross etc it is more british but I certaily don't find that with Woodvale.

We settled in Greenwood, just down from Woodvale and a little older and more established.

The houses in Woodvale are nice, people are very friendly that I have met, the Moon & Sixpence is the closest thing to an English style pub I have seen in Oz.

I really like the area, I have met plenty of Australians living in these areas, however there is a high number of UK migrants also, which can be a good thing as they are very helpful with lessons they have learnt when moving here.

I hope you will be very happy.

You must have been worn out knocking on all the doors to find out all their nationalities.

Thanks all for the comments.

The problem we have is that our short term rental is not in the catchment area of Woodvale Primary, but in the the catchment of North Woodvale primary.

We will visit both when we arrive, but Woodvale Primary seems to be more modern and more clostly tied to Woodvale senior school, although both schools do seem good and I shouldn't judge until I see both schools in person

We have been told that we may still get in to Woodvale Primary, but only if they have space as opposed to getting guaranteed if we are in the catchment area.

I hope all you don't mind me firing some more questions at you?
