Will HK air talk succee for UK where Oz failed

Oz tried negotiating pick up rights for Australian airlines flying via HK to London but failed because it would not reciprocate on letting Cathay fly to LA via Sydney. Singapore airlines recently failed in a bid to gain rights to fly to LA via Sydney because Quantas is desparate to maintain one of its most profitable routes.
UK is now negotiating rights for Virgin to fly to OZ via HK in return for letting Cathay fly to New York via London.
