Good luck to you. Ive seen enough of the world and NZ to know new plymouth is not where I would want to live (west coast beaches are not much good - black sand and windy)and I have also decided after alot of thought that NZ does not have much of a future for me and my kids. look at the percentage of those immigrants going to Oz as opposed to NZ. theyre making the wrong choice are they. And the kiwis living in Oz weve spoken to by phone and the dozens we have spoken to here who loved their time in Oz (and came back only for family reasons) theyre wrong to eh. All the pretty scenery you garnish a post with wont change the facts. Oz has as good scenery as NZ and better variety of it, better weather ,better employment and career prospects, better pay, better super system, better health system, better working conditions etc - and I cant stand the Labour government here.
A friend I have known for a long time went to perth 2 years ago. he visited last christmas and said theres no way he could do as well in NZ as he has in Perth and theres no way he would be coming back - one day maybe he will but for now thats his opinion. As I say good luck to you here - might see you in Oz in a few years. |
Graham...
I thankyou for your post, and respect what your saying....and maybe the truth be told, we feel it should be Oz for the children's sake, rather than NZ BUT...
Is this last post you write more on the financial side of things, making better money, exactly the trap we don't want to get into....as long as we make enough money to live on...literally....thats all we want, I could stay in UK for that.....I want the cycle to change of whats important, for us and the children.......I dont mean they shouldn't get a decent education and have a decent paying job, but that then provides them with a quality of life, the quantity in life is what i want gone..... we have a 'nice' house in the UK, my husband works 2 jobs, so I could always stay at home with the children, we want for nothing........but there comes a time when, Id rather just have my family back togeter.... smaller house, lower the standard of living and bingo......hopefully..... When our time comes, we will look into OZ, for the sake of the kids.....Im currently in training, so our time won't be for a few years yet, but our time will come and we'll make the right desision for all of us...... I be glad to hear how OZ goes for anybody, maybe the cooler parts at least....:D thankyou for your replies to me, Sherry x |

what we mainly want is....
out of the proverbial 'rat-race'...
outdoor lifestyle...(for hubby) quality of life with family together.... quiet, relaxed lifestyle..... obviously we'll both need to work, and the children growing up too, will need jobs, (we also have 4) but I want them to learn whats important, and although I'm well aware money makes the world go round, it doesn't have to dictate to us what we do......hopefully.... Nearer our time, we will look into both.......where is the cooler parts of Oz.?.....although I don't think NZ will lose it for me..... |
We have also tried NZ but are moving onto OZ. Been here almost 2 years and have likewise found that for all the plus' NZ has OZ has them, and then some.

to me the oz vs nz argument is a bit like comparing england with scotland (or wales or ireland).
One is bigger, one is smaller. what is 'better' to one person, is 'worse' to another. also - there are a fair few kiwis that duck backwards and forwards across the tasman as the economic factors & govt's suit them. Less aussies do this, but there's a few. It is true the economic factors usually favour Oz - but then if life was about economic factors alone, we'd all live in SE England. I'm sure I would quite happily live in parts of Oz - though some parts would be too hot for me. But then I could quite happily live just about anywhere, given enough time and tolerance. |
Those who don't like NZ, fine, piss off and leave paradise to those of us who appreciate a good thing when we see it [/QUOTE]
Well said Mr Pollster - couldn't have said it better myself. I'd have to agree with some of the other punters about the better weather (which can get boring after a while) and better wages for the same job in Oz. |

Hello,
Me n my hubby arrived in NZ on the 29th December, in Wanaka, and we love the place, after living in UK for 30 + years moving out here was a dream come true. This place is amazing, people are stressfree, polite ( yes you get the odd person ) but then nowhere is perfect, but compared to england its paradise, i can walk down the street and people smile they say G'day, my kids keep saying " who was that mum? " and i say i dont know, then they ask why did they speak to you then...in UK i could see the same people day after day and they never said a word let alone smiled!!!! Wanaka is beautiful, expensive to live compared to where i came from in UK, but worth it. All i can say is when you move to a new country bring your possesions but not your life, be prepared to start a new one! trying to live your UK life in NZ or Australia wont work! Good luck to everyone, just be prepared to relax and you'll be just fine ! and watch out for the drivers in Wanaka, there's dangerous...heehee |

Originally posted by glhall NZ is a good country. But most dont have the balls to "do something about it". You sir, have now joined the 10% who have! Good on you chap. All the best. Ambrose (flying on the 27th!):p |
You have to keep these things in proportion. There are significant reasons and insignificant reasons (for most people).
Significant reason no 1 is: Kiwis can earn a lot more money in Aus than in NZ, doing the same thing. Then there is the ease of working there (automatic right under Tasman treaty), closeness/ ease of travel, bigger business environment: more opportunities). Insignificant reasons (for most) will be: fed up with government, generous treatment of Maoris, NZ weather etc. |

Originally posted by Ambrose Graham, your not alone mate. I suspect that 3/4 of the 400,000 Kiwis that live in Aussie feel the same too. Ambrose (flying on the 27th!):p My house is on the market, and Ive started applying for jobs in Qld, NSW and Vic costal areas(local government civil engineering). Last time I got petrol here it was dear - around $1. 15/litre. $1.20 a week or so ago. Power is about 14 - 16c a unit and will go up alot this year because of expected shortages. We plan to be outa here early July - head for Bris and areas for a months sight seeing and then go to where I hopefully will have a job. Were a family of 7 so its a big move for us. cant just throw everything in an overnight bag and clear off. But Im looking forward to it. If we dont sell the house in time Ill rent it out and go anyway. Graham |

Originally posted by glhall Thanks Ambrose. Kiwis can moan with the best of em alright. Just need to listen to talk back radio over here. Graham ie Sensationalising the world so that appears as if it's all going down the gurgler. (When in actual fact, only some of it's going down the gurgler... :D But they're not the parts of the world that tabloids or talkback radio often talk about.) |

Re: Hi all....
Originally posted by glhall You learn alot about current issues from talkback radio over here(Radio pacific is the best in my area). They often interview politicians and you get a feel for public opinion. I listen when I drive to work. The TV news here is boring IMO and I cant be bothered watching for an hour of which about 1/3 is ad breaks. Graham But, I must admit at times I've been hooked into it as much as the next person! :D I agree about the TV news - I've been watching One News and Holmes over the web lately and it's doing my head in. Holmes is about as informative as GMTV - and oh my god, some of those accents are terrible!!! :D :D :D |
