Will have to get back to you as I've just packed the paperwork!!! Brian somebody........ they definitely do cover it and it's much cheaper than the shippers, 1.5% as opposed to 3% for exactly the same cover.

Not quite an international removal but another example of Pickfords lousy service. My best mate moved up to Scotland with his fiance from Worthing. He used Pickfords and had the move from hell.

Simple enough, a big truck to Worthing, load his stuff, via Horsham to pick up his fiance's stuff then off to jolly Scotland. Quoted a price with insurance (by value for whole shipment) for damage etc and they went ahead and booked. When booking he told them the place they were moving to in Scotland was very 'rural' had a steep, twisty, unsurfaced drive and the big truck might not get up there. They assured him they would check and make arrangements for the shipment to be put in two smaller trucks if they deemed it necessary (And I know he told them as he used my fax machine to send them photos of the drive entrance and I watched him send them)

When they made the second pickup they didn't rearrange any of the first pickup stuff and just chucked his fiance's stuff on top, he said you heard breaking glass at least twice whilst they were loading but they told him he was imagining it.

They headed up to Scotland, next day the big truck trundles up the Glen and surprise surprise, couldn't even turn into the driveway. The driver got quite abusive with him about wasting his time etc etc and roared off back to depot.

Next thing depot office are on the phone giving him an earbashing for not telling them about the entry problems. Oh and to top it all off it would be two days before they could get two smaller vans loaded and back up to them.

And for the final insult, despite having paid for insurance on the value of the shipment they would have to pay an extra 40% insurance premium as it was now 2 shipments. Hmmm maths was never my strong suit but surely the value of your stuff doesn't increase by 40% just because half of it gets put in another van........

After another day arguing he was shouted down by the manager he had contacted and told they had his stuff so pay up or he wasn't getting it back and they would be charging for storage.

They finally got their stuff delivered after three days with no furniture, the delivery guys completely ignored where stuff was supposed to go and just tried to dump everything as close to the front door as possible. They did try and get the antique sofa up the narrow staircase after being told to leave it downstairs as it wouldn't fit, in the process knocking half the plaster off the wall, tearing the sofa cloth and taking a huge chunk out of the leg. There were loads of fragile items broken too.

When he then tried to claim on insurance the delivery crew claimed they had left it downstairs and he and his fiance had been trying to get it up the stairs when they left.

He gave up arguing with Pickfords after about a month, wrote their head office a stinking letter and heard precisely nothing back. Hence when I moved to Aus I wouldn't even have them in for a quote as I've heard plenty of stories like that
