Default WHY DID THE SHIPPING CO'S STOP USING 30FT CONTAINERS?

Does anyone know why - we had a several quotes, all said we were over the 20ft container space but if we got rid of some items and bring it in around 1100cuft we would be ok! Well either the chap that did our estimate grossly underestimated our consignment or just went around with his eyes closed. We sold or dumped or gave away loads of stuff but when the men with the van came, they had to send for another van to collect the overspill!

First time we went to Aus, we had more furniture and no problems - however, we now realise it was a 30ft container that we shipped our things in - why don't they do them anymore?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Twenty-...quivalent_unit

In short, the standard unit is the 20ft container, which then doubles up to the 40ft easily. 30ft doesn't fit and isn't the standard (even the ships are built in TEUs). It's the betamax of ISO containers (or should that be HD-DVD now?)

When was that? I've never heard of a 30 footer How big is your current property? We managed to shove everything from a large 3 bedder with three very large sheds into a 20 foot reefer which has slightly less space than a regular 20 footer
