That explains that.. nightmare, so that means the exchange rate for moving to oz is worse than i thought.

Visa give an excellent exchange rate. In fact, for amounts of £500 or less, you'll struggle to beat it. And the convenience is obvious.
If you want to send money from Aus to UK, then that's a bit more awkward. Of course you could post one of your Aussie bank cards to a (very) trusted family member for them to withdraw the cash and pay it into your UK account, but you may not like that option. But, like I said, you'll struggle to beat the rate... apparently visa give you close to the £1M+ rate...

We used Halewood Int, no complaints about them at all.
They only transfer amounts GBP5,000+, if you are only transferring the money to one account there is no charge, otherwise, its GBP15.00.
The rate we got for GBP 12,000 was 2.39, the internet quoted 2.43, but I was told that was for amounts of about a million GBP,
that was around about the 10/09/03.
Would use them again.
