OK some of you tarts come out here and buy a 4x4 : the 'Cruiser seems
par for the course..

Who has an old banger/ute/ car and
is not ashamed of it.

Me:

White 1992 Mitsibishi Triton Ute 4x4 Turbo
Diesel 2.5

(Bought for the tray back, not for the 4x4 incidentally).

Comes in REALLY, really handy.

270,000 Km = 162,000 miles.

I am
going to try to get it to the 400,000 KM (250,000 miles) point so I can
at least say it has been to the moon, if not at least back
again.

I've got an Old Banger now in the UK and expect I'll have one when I get
to Oz.

What will a motor like your's set me back?

Thanks,

Paul.

Mine was AUS 9,000 plus a year's warranty. NB this is fairly exp...a car
of the same age would be far cheaper.

To get a half decent Hilux I was
looking at AUS15-18K.

Cheers

That would be me then :D

92 Diahatsu charade. Great little car and
much easier to drive about town than the LHD 4x4 we brought down
from Germany.

I drive a 1987 Honda: I'm not proud of it nor am I ashamed!

Cars to me
= transport, not some strange form of "status".

If you have an old car
which is reliable - mine is - you will be helping to save the planet.
Might be a bit more polluting to drive, but Gawd knows how much energy,
raw materials and pollution go into a new one every three years.......

Back in the U.K my daily driver was a 1957 Commer Cob van, Deb had a
newer car by 2 yrs hers was a 1959 ford Anglia we traded in a 1929 model
a pick-up, 3 Anglia's the cob van and my baby a 1955 ford pop hot rod
all chrome and polished metal [brushes away tears:(:( ] We banked the
cash to buy our newest ever vehicle a 2002 Crew Cab Ford Courier diesel
4x4.
Personally I'd rather have the 55 ford back but the utes more
practical for carting tiles and glue around.;)

Who would know what the average price of a small 4x4 car in Oz?
Something big enough to fit a surf board but small enough not to clear
the ozone. Will be relocating to Sydney next year & just dreaming at
moment.

Like a Toyota Rav4 - 5-10 years old? $5-10k? More? Cheers

I drive a 1984 Toyota Corolla which has 300,000 kms on the clock... I
wouldn't be seen dead in it at home, but over here, it does the job!!
I
take some consolation from the fact that it was reported that bright
yellow cars are the safest and least likely to be involved in an
accident, and what colour is my car??? Bright canary yellow!!! ;)

do aussie reg plates not give indication of year of manufactor ?

if
they don't, brilliant as that means no more "my car is newer than yours"
syndrome.

please let me know about this query.
