We have had the joy of finding (and killing
) 2 whitetail spiders in our house last night and this morning. As we have small kids around I wasn't too happy but a local friend said that they tend to live in pairs and if we got to them early enough we should be OK. They were both in the same area and no sign of any more.
The house hasn't been sprayed as the landlord hasn't got it done and won't be able to arrange it until in the new year. Is there anyone out there that knows more about these vile little b*****s and whether we should just say stuff it and get the house sprayed ourselves sooner rather than wait. Will spraying the outside make the slightest difference as these are in the house? We have the 2 youngest with asthma which is not under control at the moment and do not want to increase the amount of poisonous chemicals that they are exposed to for the sake of it.
Any info would be appreciated.

Won't be telling my dad as he won't visit as he is terrified of spiders and all things crawly :scared:

If they're inside the house you need to buy a mortein bomb, you just set it then go out.
PS. Wish my MIL was like that even though she's petrified of spiders we keep telling her about them and she's still coming

you could suggest that to your landlord that you'll arrange to get it done and somehow take it out of your rent?? when our house was sprayed it was done inside and out, have you tried just spraying the effected area yourself with a indoor spray...you can get some that last for about 3 months I think.Hope you get it sorted soon

. I spoke to the agents as there is nothing about spraying in the contract and asked who was responsible. Their reply was that he was happy to do it but couldn't manage it before the new year but I don't think that he is obliged to do so.ur agents are super careful about everything as they seem to live in constant fear that they may be sued about something so if they were obliged to do it they would get it done or more likely made sure that it had been done before we moved in.I think that we will speak to a local pest control company as I am concerned about the chemicals around the little kids and the kitten as we wouldn't be able to take her out while it was done.
I've not seen any more as yet so am hoping that we got them all, the real worry was that the second one was hiding in the little one's toys :scared: .

I assume that we would have to keep the kitten well out of the way as well. My Dad is seriously scared of anything that crawls, he had to go to cinicnatti during the cicada (sp??) swarms and was terrified hee hee)

We're renting through Ray White, we had the keys for this place but just before we moved in we noticed quite a few spiders, phoned the real estate and it was done the next day...I must admit I've no idea if its in our contract or not? All the best, hope its sorted soon

Although saying that the white tail that got me was just running acoss the kitchen floor. Buy some mortein in a 1 liter square bottle, it comes with a squirter on a lead, its only 20 or 30 bucks, then spray the outside of the house where the slab meets the bricks and windows and doors meet the floor. Doesn't take long and seems to keep the numbers down.

I was bitten by a Whitetail.....hurt like hell; leg swelled up, red and hot to touch, then after two days I got a big blister that secreted a yucky liquid...was on antibiotics for two weeks. Also had a bad headache and was nauseous for a couple of days.
I was told to keep my eye on the healing process...as this spiders' bite can go bad and on occasions can ulcerate.........mine didn't, but took over 2 weeks to get anywhere near healing.
