Can NSW trust themselves to buy alcohol responsibly at the supermarket?

It's like that stupid argument that alcohol can't be sold at petrol stations because we'll all start getting pissed at the wheel. In our bit of Europe (not too far from Vienna) you can buy any booze you like at virtually all garages and - surprise, surprise - it hasn't led to any greater incidence of drink driving.

Does seem strange when there are drive through bottle shops yet you cannot drive your supermarket trolley through a booze section.

It is interesting that the biggest complainers are the Australian Hoteliers Association are one of the biggest opponents of the law. They stand to lose with competition to the bottle shops attached to the hotels. Also interesting is they are one of the biggest donors to the NSW Labour party. NSW has also been opposing the move to increase competition in the liqor sales industry.
