Where's a good place to holiday in melbourne please?
Any recommendations?
We're thinking about driving down from Canberra over Christmas time, would like good accommodation, somewhere kid friendly if possible? .....and must be near the beach!

Hi Carmel,
Mornington on the Mornington Peninsula is very popular. It's close to Mt.Eliza which is a small village with nice restaurants and a hotel/bar and Mornington is well positioned to explore the rest of the peninsula and there's a Ferry at Sorrento which goes to Queenscliff on the other side of the bay. Phillip Island with the fairy penguins and koala sanctuary can also be driven to in approx 1 1/2 hours. The beaches are child friendly and there's plenty of accommodation, restaurants and bars for the evening. I can't recommend a particular place to stay but this link may help http://www.visitmorningtonpeninsula.org/
and there's always the Peninsula Visitor Info Centre tel TOLL FREE 1800 804 009.
There is also the Bellarine Peninsula to the West of Melbourne. The Great Ocean Rd. is very popular especially Lorne and Apollo Bay, Port Fairy and Warrnambool. You can see the 12 Apostles at Port Campbell. However, I think the sea is rougher on this side of the city as many of the beaches are particularly good for surfing.
If you do opt for the Mornington Peninsula I am happy to give you more info on places we've visted that are good for keeping the little ones happy.
Have a great holiday.
Caroline

Hi there
Don't know, we only live here!
Seriously, Mornington and Philip Island are nice. Gt Ocean Rd - Lorne etc for amazing rugged scenery. If you want countryside then the Yarra Valley or try Daylesford and the Spa Country - there are lots of nice hotels out that way for a bit of pampering.
We've only been here since Jan and have yet to go exploring!
Have fun!
