You've done the check it out/holiday trip , heard alsorts of opinions and now it's make your mind up time.

Thought it would be interesting to know where you've decided to settle and why?

If I were going to Aus it would be near Brisbane.

Excellent climate (for me), property prices still reasonable, diving not too far away, good size city.

We're hoping for Brisbane in '05. Reasons? Climate, city facilities but it's not a big city - also seems to take itself less seriously than say Melbourne or Sydney, if you see what I mean, house prices (although that 'benefit' seems to be disappearing rapidly) and I have a mate on the Gold Coast.

plumber May 9th 2004 3:09 am

I'm off to the Goldcoast !

The way it's looking maybe down sizing to a shed........but a least it will be my shed!!!

Re: Where and why?

Melbourne!!,
Because it's the furthest place away from Jaguar cars and the Midlands.
:D

Phoenixuk2oz May 9th 2004 4:45 am

Brisbane - most suitable climate:D

Oz Govmt stats say:
Most jobs in my sector
Least populated of the major cities
Favourable unemployment %
Ratio female to male managers good
Sunshine / daylight hrs favourable
Health spending per public sector good
Schools good
House prices most favourable
Brisbane centre within reasonable driving distance

Blah....blah...blah.....

We originally planned on going to the Gold Coast, unfortunately we dont have enough points, so the other option was to go for STNI and we plan on making the most of it in Victoria, and after 2 years if we are still up for the Gold Coast, so be it we will give that a go as well.

Good luck on wherever you all end up.

Perth for us, we liked the east coast & particularly Brisbane but we just knew as soon as we landed in Perth that it had to be! We love South of Perth & hope to be there in January. Still loads for us to see in Perth before we make a definate decision on where to settle but it would take a bomb to change our minds at the moment!!

Re: Where and why?

Definately Perth for us, but that's because we've a young family.
Lived in Sydney b4 & liked it, but went on a rekkie trip last year & visited both Perth & Sydney.
Perth was so clean & appealed to us because as I've already said that we've young children & ticked every box for us as a family.
Not knocking anywhere else in Oz but it's everyone to their own!!!!
All the best

Still haven't got a clue:confused:

Probably start in Adelaide as Eldest son live there and says we can have his house for a while (he works abroad much of the time).
Not sure where we will end up.
Depends if we decide to work. If so then depends where the best job is.
Going to have a look around a few places next month so will wait and see.

Blue Mountains in NSW........................

Hubbies family live there and we just bought a house there.

Hubby has a job to go to and I am bringing my job with me.

Looking to start a family in next year or two so despite loving Sydney decided against living in a big city.

Have lived in London for last 19 years so I am ready for the countryside!!!

Worried I will feel isolated but will have to do my best to get out and meet people.

Adelaide for us. Brother has lived there for ten years now and we have a support network of friends there to help us get settled. Did contemplate Caloundra but only have one set of friends there and you can't keep asking for help from the same people all the time. We've been to Adelaide twice and liked it. Also Yorke Peninsula not too far away so we can get out of town for a break.

just to bump this up a bit.

My wife and I are also moving to Oz, but not really sure where to yet. I have a very close uncle in Syndey, Blacktown actually, and we thought it was very nice when we went there about a month ago. Nice weather (although i hear it can be unpredictable), friendly people, great environment. However, I don't mind going elsewhere if it would prove favourable.

Hi, Plumber,
Thought I would get in touch as we live in Varsity Lakes near Robina on the Gold Coast. We are 5 mins from the beautiful beaches and 20 mins to the Hinterlands and national parks.
The school at Varsity where two of our kids go is one of the best on the coast. The only piece of advise I can give is check the work situation out before moving here. The wages are not as good as the UK. Brisbane is about 45 mins by car, and we are only half an hour NSW. The building boom is going mad here. Property prices arent going up. If you want any more tips, contact me and I will help if I can, cheers Rob
