Where to live in Sydney
Me and the family plan on living in Sydney.
The big ? is where, Sydney is a large city with many surburbs.
We were thinking of St Georges, about 40 min to dowtown.
Let me know if you have any thoughts or experiences.
Thanks
Tej

We lived in Sydney for 3 years and during the final year were based in Brighton-le-Sands which is part of the St George area.
Brighton-le-Sands is right on the coast and has a long, sprawling beach. It has a real ethnic mix of Greeks, Italians and true-blue Aussies and has some excellent seafood restaurants overlooking the beach.
It takes about 20 mins by train to get from Kogarah/Rockdale stations into Central station which isn't bad. The only downside is that everyone wants to travel between 7:15-8:00, so the trains are always packed like sardines.
Houses in Kogarah/Rockdale have more of a back-yard than properties closer to the city. With large parks and beaches nearby, the area has more of a relaxed laid-back atmosphere which is good if you have kids.
The other 2 years in Sydney we lived in Petersham which is an inner-west suburb. Only takes 8-10 minutes by train to get into Central station, though planes fly almost directly overhead so you need to quickly crank up the volume on the TV remote every so often
