Re: where to live in Melbourne
There are some nice parts of Sunshine believe it or not.
Down around Matthews St... near the reserve etc etc. Not sure about schools, definitely affordable for the OP and close to the City. http://maps.google.com.au/maps?hl=en...ed=0CC0Q8gEwAA Just had a look around the area myself on maps, and check out around 15 Alfred st.... someone has done exactly as RD suggested and built a large big new home on one of the blocks there. That will be shrewd locals making big investments in the locale. |
Re: where to live in Melbourne
I can well believe it, I lived in Albion for a few years. Never had any problems, had a salt of the earth type neighbour and a 20 minute train ride to the city. My OH and I ran a side business for a few years which meant we were in and out of a lot of homes in the West, including Sunshine and Albion. There are some VERY nice houses lurking around the place, very nice indeed. Went to a few horrible places too, of course.
There are some surprisingly wealthy folk out there, factory owners etc for whom I guess it makes sense to continue living in the West rather than move to a 'nice' South Eastern suburb. |
Re: where to live in Melbourne
for about 3 weeks in 2009, developers went quiet and were not bidding on land...we were the only bidders on a knackered old shack in Newport.
We have knocked this down (after having rented it out for a couple of years) and are eagerly anticipating the build to start. Newport is a nice little community suburb. By the way Danny- your shack in Willy looks fab. Your hard work has really paid off and it is a great spot. |

I thought that when i first arrived. Now 6 years on, I would kill for a shack in a decent suburb with decent services. I think your thinking changes with time once your here and can see past certain things. Well said. Besides not all 50 year UK houses are built the same. |

Cheers me dear.

Hardest contractor for me to get right was our Hard Landscaper... which shouldnt be a problem in a new build as you dont have as many drainage issues. Getting a decent plasterer was difficult. I know a very very good electrician if you get stuck. Lives in North Coburg so not too far to come. Young bloke great with lighting ideas. Hard Landscaper = Drainage, (Included moving and upgrading all our existing pipes Gas and Water) Concreting, Excavating, Solid retaining Walls, and Garden Design. . |

Yes you might do better to look in Altona or Newport. Altona meadows is cheaper but not as nice

Re: where to live in Melbourne
Carbon monoxide poisoning from the heavy traffic 'on the other side'. :D
I'd be more worried about the motor cycle club headquarters in Techno Park Drive than the refinery to be honest. :D |
