Re: Where to live
What type of weather are you looking for? Australia has many as variety of climates, ranging from tropical to temperate. Guessing by your post you have never set foot on Australia! How much research have you done?
If you want warm/hot weather all year round, Perth, Darwin, Brisbane. Melbourne would be more European. While Sydney a bit of a compromise, if you can cope with the housing costs.
Your hubby would need to retrain to work in Australia as the UK trade he has is not recognised. This could take up to a year and not cheap from what I understand.
For you, you should research how easily you could get into the police force, as Pollyana mentioned not easy here.
The job market is not as buoyant as you would hope. Times are getting tough in the lucky country!

NSW does not have loads of jobs. NSW is a very big place, you could drive for twelve hours in a straight line and not leave the state. Jobs will be few and far between in considerable parts of it, Sydney however might be what you mean. In Australia you cannot use the name of the main city and the name of the state interchangeably.

Re: Where to live
You mean you hope to be in the police in Australia - good luck with that, it's by no means a certainty that you would be offered a job, lots of people apply when the unemployment rate rises. I'd say move to whichever state might be recruiting - apply for them all and see if you get an offer. What sort of visa will you be moving on? If it is state sponsored of course you are morally obliged to stay in the state for the two years

WAPOL seems to do national annual recruit, one just finished about 9weeks ago so no intake for a while.my hubby runs an electrical wholesaler and from what I hear from him, sparkies are struggling as too many sparkies have come back from mines after loosing their jobs so more competition for less projects.
