where to live??
Hey all
I have been on before asking the same question but all went a bit quiet on the auz front as sent of visa applications so sort of put it all on the back burner for a while until we heard anymore.
just in process of going for medicals so now full steam ahead thinking about what we want to do and where we want to go.
just cannot decide between sydney and brisbane!
we want to be able to afford a nice home for when we start a family over there - sydney (surburbs in and around north sydney) just seems so expensive but we love it there - and plus we know it there so would feel really familiar and at home.
i also really liked brisbane and seems less expensive but wouldn't have a clue about which suburbs and where is nice to live (did just see a post from someone looking to hook up with friends for coffee, shopping, drinks, girls nights out.... sounds good to me & would be up for that!!!)
please help??
also - money wise (earnings/cost of living etc...) is it really as bad as everyone seems to say on this forum?? seems a lot of negativity around it all! (OH is a chippie).
am confused!

I can't help as I've never been to either place, but I would say investigate what your OH needs to do to be able to work as a tradesman over here and go wherever it's easiest - that way he'll be working quicker and you'll have the option to move if you don't like it.
If you go to the place that's hardest to get what he needs first, then you'll be living off your savings and may not have that luxury

We chose Melbourne, been here just 3 weeks and still deciding!
Sounds like you've alredy been Sydney but the house prices/commutes put us off.
just my opinion but I think you need to base this tough call around how much you may earn and what will be affordable for yourselves. From what I know there is big difference between Syd & Bris but can you practically find work up there? thats what swung Melburne for us, although finding it a tough one to pick an area and finally get our eldest in school (they break up for summer hols soon!)
