Hi
Just thought I would say - when we were ready to book our flights to emigrate, we searched the net for hours and hours for the cheapest prices, and I mean hours but, at the end of the day, we went into one of our local Travel Agents and they got us really cheap flights! Obviously they have a general knowledge of the best and worst times of the year to fly and help you work around that if poss.
Honestly, we found ours extremely helpful and would not hesitate to use travel agents again. It would have saved me all those blasted hours of searching the net - shame we did not realise before - new to flying you see - it was my first time
Give them a go - tell them what you have been quoted and they will do their best to beat it!
Enjoy your visit!

Hiya,
We're off for our validation in 3 weeks time, booked in September last year through www.Opodo.com, paid £2,800 for five of us including an internal flight from Sydney to Brisbane, although this is flying with Quantas and Singapore was our preferred airline, but with 5 of us, we certainly couldn't be too fussy! - give them a look.

It is usually far cheaper to fly to Sydney or Melbourne and then get a virgin blue connection to Adelaide.
There are very few direct international flights to Adelaide hence less availability therefore higher price.
Try here for an online quote:

Bear in mind that prices are always higher during the UK school holidays.

Hi Gill,
did you go to the well known high street travel agents, or was it one those little independent one's.
also did you book it weeks in advance, as we have to be in Adelaide for our validation visa by mid august.
only waiting to sell the house before we are sure to book the ticket.

Hi, I used www.travelsupermarket.co.uk who give loads of results. Also look at www.leestravel.com for main carriers, usually better nearer to time of travel. Like someone else said try www.opodo.co.uk I am going in 5 weeks booked with them and using Emirates.
Also phone the actual airline, they have offers on Cathay are good for this

Thank you all for replies, will certainly "hit" the local travel agents, someone else had said this to me the other day, when booking their summer holiday to Spain, searched for hours on the web and then booked locally saving about £400 which isnt toooo bad!!
Will also check out the other sites see what I can come up with!!
Once again thanks for your help!

We are using Trailfinders.
We are going via the states,
Gatwick to Orlando, Miami to LA, LA to Sydney and then Sydney to Adelaide.
Total cost just over £700.

G'day Farideh!
We booked with 'Going Places' - they were brilliant - really helpful and put our minds at rest. Had so much to sort out at that time it was lovely to sit back and watch someone else do the searching for a change - and it worked!
We took in the cheapest quote I found on-line, then they searched and beat it! We flew out on 29th October 2004 which I think is one of the more reasonable times to fly anyway. Mid August ie UK school summer holiday, could cost you more, as prime time.
As for time factor - well, our situation was unusual, we could not tell anybody we were going until a month before actually leaving - nightmare!! So, we booked our flights on the 29/9/04!!! If you are willing to go with any airline then this is fine, if you want a particular airline then you might not be able to get seats so close to leaving date. They will check different dates and availability for you anyway, of course you knew that already
All I can say is, to take a bit of the strain off everything else you have to do, check out a few agents first.
Have fun on your validation visit to Adelaide!
Take care
