Hello

I will keep a close eye on this thread as we are hoping to come over to Brisbane next year, we like the look of Bayside mainly due to the fact that I have found most info on this area. I am a bit concerned at the house prices in the area, so any suggestions for different suburbs would be great. Need to be able to commute to city centre (but don't want to waste too much of my life sat on a train!!). Would like an area which has plenty going on (shops, pubs!!!!!!), also need good schools and an area where 2 teenagers will be happy!! Tall order I know......

I think Bayside areas are all a bit smalltown, but we do live in London now, so we will end up on the Gold Coast as there is more going on down there. My boys will be teenagers in 3/5 years so I am thinking ahead.

I think that's part of the beauty of it More relaxed living, yet within striking distance of Brisbane and the Gold Coast if required.

We are in Tanah Merah close to the Logan Hyperdome, allegedly the largest shopping centre in the Southern Hemisphere - at least by sq m of ground it covers.
Anyone know if that is true?

Unfortunately, house prices have gone up just about everywhere.
As an idea of increases in the last 12 months:
Brisbane North has increased by 13%
Brisbane West by 23%
Brisbane East by 11%
Bayside South by 12%
Bayside North by 13%

These %'s taken from http://www.homepriceguide.com.au/snapshot/

We're currently renting in Hawthorne but we're thinking of buying in Carindale. Any one got any good/bad thoughts on that suburb (other than great shopping centre!)

Cheers

We (myself, hubby and small bub) are in Birkdale, Bayside.
Just bought a 4 bed lowset with big garden for fraction more than we sold our 3 bed townhouse in Bradford, Yorks.
We love it here, though do miss our friends in the UK :-(.

Hubby settled in job and bub settled at daycare once a week, social life is more hectic than the UK - must be this nice BBQ weather.
